A Personal Look at Aftercare

After an intense scene, it is important to work on refueling my body, my mind, and my heart.

For my body, the first step after every scene is water and working on getting my blood sugar levels back to a moderate level. I generally dislike chocolate or other overly sweet things immediately after a scene. I prefer a protein, like pepperoni, ham, or bacon, and a fruit, like purple grapes or pineapple. The longer or more intense a scene, the more I need something to balance me out physically. After a bit, something more substantial can happen, like pancakes, waffles, etc (something more meal-like).

The cravings that a individual has after a scene various from person to person. I know some people that can’t eat for an extended period after. I think this variation in food cravings is why it became a tradition to bring dishes to public dungeons. It was helpful to make sure that you had something after a scene and sharing the dish with other members of the community help forge connections between people. This tradition went somewhat out of style with Covid concerns, but I would love to see it come back.

For my mind, I like to talk through the scene at some point, get reassurance, and later write about my feelings during and after. It is my way of mentally processing what I (and my Miss) have gone through physically. This type of thing becomes increasingly important when the scene takes on a more mental note.
