A Submissive’s Values
In my journey towards personal growth, I have had to admit that I struggle severely with practicing any form of self-care. I have spent the better part of two decades living my life for other people, prioritizing someone else’s needs, dreams, and desires over my own. It has reached a point where practicing self-care is a foreign concept. It isn’t just about having the physical time and energy to do something. A large part of the problem is that I don’t understand myself well enough to know what to do for myself when I have the time. My Miss is now requiring me to practice 10 to 15 minutes of self-care per day, and I have sent her a list of possibilities that she can suggest/insist on if she wishes or if I find myself incapable of making that decision.
To this end, my therapist suggested that I explore the 8 dimensions of wellness. Here is a brief overview if you are unfamiliar. Wellness is comprised of eight co-dependent dimensions: physical, social, occupational, spiritual, emotional, intellectual, financial, and environmental. According to this practice, a balance of each of the wellness dimensions is necessary to provide harmony to one’s personal well-being and neglecting any one of them for too long can affect a person’s overall health. Using the 8 dimensions of wellness can allow a person to look at the ways in which they care for themselves and make adjustments in order to achieve balance.
