The First Lesson on Devotion

What is the one quality you think most subs possess?

Devotion, which leads to many other things. Devotion leads to obedience, to molding our minds to the way our dominant suggests that they should be. When we strive to please our dominant, when we long for praise, devotion resides there. Some people say that a brat doesn’t want to obey, that they design their lives to invoke ire. I won’t say they are wrong; I will tell them to look closer. Most brats want to obey, they just want to push every button on the way there. And the brat tamers they love enjoy getting their buttons pushed, enjoy having a reason to be aggressive in return. The general population of the brat community is still devoted to their dominant, it just looks a little different.

Devotion leads to patience. It means we are comfortable waiting for the things we desire so that the things we need can be done. It means we will fight all of our instincts to stop, to wait for pleasure. We will resist orgasm by sheer force of will. It means we are capable of putting aside the thinking of ourselves so that we think of our dominants, our service, our goals.

Devotion helps the submissive surrender their body to their dominant. Sometimes this takes on the form of a “free-use” submissive. Sometimes it means that we push ourselves to take the pain that our dominant needs us to take. When we are struggling with the sharp sting of a cane, and she says “you can take 3 more,” we summon courage where we thought we had none. We learn to do deep breathing exercises…
