The Way We Fly- A Response

3 min readApr 20, 2025

This is my response to Miss’s writing, published as A (Partial) Suspension of Disbelief

There’s this point of view in some parts of the lifestyle, developed from smut and porn, that Dominants are supposed to be 100% confident, 100% of the time. They aren’t allowed to experience doubt, be afraid, struggle with self-image. The Domiliest Dom that ever Dommed wouldn’t question their own Domiliness and if something isn’t happening in the right way, it is the submissive that doesn’t understand, the submissive that has doubts, the submissive that needs correction.

Sometimes that way of thinking extends beyond individuals and into the dynamics and the community at large. Pictures of flawless submission, growling Dominants, effortless suspension. Stories about the “right way” to be a submissive, to have a dynamic, always perfect. They never show the struggle. They don’t show the sacrifices and hard steps that have been taken. The almost fails.

This is part of why I write as much and the way that I do. I try to give the world an honest view of a real dynamic, all the messiness that happens, and the way we work together to succeed. I am fortunate to have a partner that not only encourages me to write the way that I do but shows her truth to the world.

Here is a piece of writing from Miss exposing her truth and vulnerability to the world. Admitting that she has insecurities, that she isn’t flawless. And it’s beautiful. It’s one more green flag in her collection.
