Weekly Deep Dive- Biting
Give me something to sink my teeth into
Odaxelagnia is a paraphilia involving sexual arousal through biting or being bitten and it is considered an easy and accepted method of S&M. Roughly half the population has experienced some form of sexual arousal during biting play. While it is generally considered a mild form of sadomasochism, biting can be a very intense experience and can serve a number of purposes.
Biting can be as simple, a nip on the neck for example, or extremely penetrating, like sinking your teeth into a partner’s shoulder, butt, or back and biting down as hard as you can. It can feel primal or animalistic or be about power and control. Biting can even be a way to regulate strong emotions, as is the case in cute aggression.
When you introduce biting into a BDSM situation, even with an experienced partner, it is important to ease into it. One person may describe a bite as a “two” on the pain scale, but the partner receiving could label it a “six.” It is important to understand your partner’s pain tolerance and responses before going more full force. Double check with your partner to find out if the force of bite you are giving is too hard, or if it is located in a bad area of their body. Keep in mind that hormonal fluctuations can significantly impact how sensitive areas of the body are.
While the more primal of us may be comfortable with bits that come out of nowhere, if you are new to biting, please don’t just bite everywhere with no… sensual activity in between. Kiss, lick…
