Mental bondage is a form of psychological domination and submission to impose restraints rather than physical items such as rope, cuffs, or chain. Tops can use verbal commands, gestures or signals, humiliation, or praise to control the movements, or lack of movement, of the bottom. Mental bondage is a form of consensual power exchange between partners.

Mental bondage is a part of many kinks and scenes in one way or another. For example, when a bottom is receiving an OTK spanking, they are expected to stay in place for the spanking and to not put their hands in the way, even if an explicit command isn’t stated.
