You Belong Among the Wildflowers

You belong among the wildflowers,
with tousled hair, littered with grass.
Nature calls to the heart of you.
It demands dirt under your manicured nails,
covering your fair skin until you look tan.

You belong among the animals, child;
souls as wild and free as yours always do.
All the wolves know your name
and sing with you when you call the moon,
making it rise full and heavy in the night sky.

Some girls have always had a thing for the sky,
whether bright and blue, or dark and filled with stars.
Some girls have always had a thing for the grass
in big open meadows or soft patches underneath trees.
Some girls have always had a thing for the wolf
no matter where he was found.
